Welcome
Coping with a midlife crisis is never easy. For Martin Freake, it’s just one catastrophe after another now that his inner voices have spiralled out of control. Midlife Mayhem is an off-beat, amusing and intuitive portrayal of the disastrous consequences of the battle for supremacy waged between three conflicting entities: the Brain, the Belly and the Beast.
The Brain, sensitive, sensible (and somewhat nerdy) has wrestled for decades to retain control over the misogynistic, one-track minded Beast. Driven by Beast’s primeval urges and constant bullying, Brain has had to deal with numerous deviant sexual escapades, culminating in a failed marriage. The arrival of Belly, a lazy and sly bon vivant, signals a dramatic change in the status quo and heralds the transition to a new phase in life. Further havoc in an already dysfunctional relationship quickly ensues.
Torn between a life-long association with the Beast and a growing fondness for the new arrival Belly, Brain recognises that sooner or later, a choice will have to be made between a life driven by lust or laziness. Along the way, the battle for supremacy between Beast and the Belly over Brain has some amusing and disastrous consequences.
